We are a friendly and welcoming bunch at the Ship. It’s hard work keeping this place running but Mike (the general manager) along with his team do a fantastic job of taking it in their stride and making it look so simple!
Mike Watson – General Manager
I am 31 years old and was born on the Wirral. I grew up in Bermuda until I was 20 years old and then came back to the UK to go to university. Since then I have lived in various places and moved back to the Wirral in 2011. I graduated from University with a masters degree and fell into this job as a part time manager, since then my passion for the industry grew and so did my responsibility climbing the ladder to General Manager! Outside of work I like getting on my Kawasaki ZX-10r motorbike and riding through North Wales and also I love eating out. My favourite cuisine is great British food and authentic American slow cooked bbq food. I’ve worked in pubs on and off for about 6 years.
Mike Adams – Assistant Manager
I am 28 years old and have lived on the Wirral for the past 15 years. I was born in Bristol and moved to the Wirral when I was 10 years old, since then it has been home! I have worked at The Ship for the past 5 years and worked in pubs for a few years before that. I enjoy the atmosphere of working in a pub and working as part of a strong team. Working in pubs is a busy job so I when I get free time I enjoy relaxing with my family and friends. My favourite type of cuisine is Italian, top of the list every time!
Hannah Naughalty – Assistant Manager
I am 20 years old and was born on the Wirral. I have lived here all of my life and have worked in a number of places in the area with a brief spell at Frankie & Benny’s, I then worked at Craxton Wood as a waitress and continued that job role here at The Ship, until being promoted to Assistant Manager at The Ship earlier this year. I am a sociable person hence the reason I love my job, meeting new people all of the time is one of the highlights to my job and outside of work I equally enjoy spending my time with friends. I do like to dine out with my favourite cuisine having to be Italian….you can’t beat a great pizza! I have always worked in this industry and love the variety of the job – every day is different, you never know who you are going to meet or what the day will hold.
Dillwyn (Dill) Jones – Head Chef
I am 35 years old and come from St Asaph in North Wales where I first started by career as a kp in a cafe at the age of 13! I moved to the Wirral in 2008 and have lived here ever since working at the Blackhouse Grill in Chester and Craxton Wood before I settled at the Ship back in September 2014. It sounds cliché but my passion is food so outside of work I love to eat out, try new restaurants and experiment with food.
My favourite cuisine is British (of course!) and my favourite thing to cook is fish. When it comes to my favourite thing to eat then I would have to say fois gras, when I see it on a menu I order it straight away if done properly it’s out this world. But I do have a sweet tooth, I love a good/different dessert.
In my kitchen the one utensil I couldn’t cope without is my Maurice and the one ingredient that I use in everything is butter!…it makes food taste so good.
From the managers, to the front of house, the kitchen, the housekeeping, and the maintenance team, without them all it wouldn’t be possible to be the relaxing and outgoing pub that we all know and love.
