Following Boris’ recent announcement, at long last, that light at the end of what seemed like an ever extending tunnel, finally feels within reach. So it will be with a very happy heart that we can once again welcome customers back to the pub from Monday 12th of April. Whilst it may just be outside and under the ‘rule of 6’, and it may involve coats and warm jumpers, the odd umbrella and the dodging of a brief April shower, it will however, mean we are once again able to enjoy a proper pint of beer, a glass of something cold and crisp on the patio, some delicious food and tempting nibbles. But most importantly, it means we can all see each other once again, not on a screen, not through a window or other side of the road but across a table from one another, at a pub, enjoying a drink and each other’s company, one of the simplest and greatest pleasures in life.
Rule of '6' - As of 12th of April we can accept bookings for a group of up to 6 people from multiple households (children of all ages count towards the limit of 6) or in a larger group from up to two households.
As we will be reliant on the rather unreliable British weather for those first 5 weeks, taking bookings for outdoor tables presents some challenges. So, we will have a limited number of covered outdoor tables in our marquee which we will take reservations for ONLINE. However, many of our tables are open to the elements and so these will only be made available on a first come first served basis, so if it does tip it down, we’re not having to disappoint people by cancelling that table. Each and every one of us must now do our bit for the pubs of Great Britain and keep our fingers and toes crossed for a Spring like last year, so we can celebrate the reopening of society in true British style…….at the pub, drink in hand, in the sunshine.
We will be open Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th of April in the first week, but following this up until the 17th of May we will be open Wednesday to Sunday serving at the following times:
Food: 12pm - 8pm
Drinks: 12pm - 10.30pm
All being well, we will be able to open up the inside of the pub from Monday 17th of May, bookings for which are now being taken online.
We can’t wait to welcome you and your friends & family back to the pub, without the necessity for that ‘substantial meal’! See you soon.
Mike and the team
As we re-open on Wednesday 12th of April, we will only be opening our outside area only for food and drink service.
JOINING US FOR A DRINK? Just pop down to the pub as tables are on a first come first serve basis. At busy times you may be asked to queue whilst a table becomes available.
WANT TO DINE WITH US? If you would like to dine with us then we will have a limited number of covered tables that are available to book ONLINE.

The Ship, a traditional coaching inn with rooms in the quaint village of Parkgate, Wirral.
‘The Ship’ is as much the local’s local as it is the visitor’s retreat, offering the perfect afternoon stop, evening out or weekend escape. Our bar has an array of great local ales, quality wines and soft drinks. We also stock the usual and sometimes not so usual selection of whiskies, gins, rums and other tipples.
Our buzzy atmosphere in the pub stems from our healthy mix of diners and those popping in for a drink or two. You can nestle into a cosy corner, relax in front of our open fire, or take in the stunning views over the Dee Estuary to the hills of North Wales. In the warmer months, our heated sun terrace becomes a popular rest for walkers, cyclists and our guests to enjoy a drink whilst embracing the scenery and local wildlife (both the feathered and ice cream munching kind!)
Our hearty homemade menu is bursting with well known British classics as well as some of our own creative seasonal specials. Our team of chefs use all fresh and where possible local produce to ensure quality and freshness in every dish, and hopefully give you a flavour of the local area.
Not that you would know from looking at it but the Ship has 25 en-suite guest rooms above and to the rear of the inn creating the perfect stay whether on business or pleasure. Our location is perfect for popping along to Chester or hopping over the water to the hustle and bustle of Liverpool city centre, we are also just 15 minutes from the M53.
